TRUTH is not only “stranger than fiction,” it can be more thrilling and often contains many surprises. Keeping my accounts of wild west adventures truthful is not only a responsibility but a necessity. There is no need to suspend belief in reality, since I take my information from the most contemporary and accurate sources available – the newspapers of the time, and then double check and confirm the facts against every other source I can find. In the real life of the old west there were daring crimes, great pursuits, thrilling shoot-outs, exciting captures, and interesting legal maneuvers. I try to include medical observations when they are presented, which gives the reader one more glimpse into the shortcomings of the “olden days.” Finding images is particularly difficult, but once a rare image is found it enhances the presentation of the tale by putting faces on the victims and criminals.
 The tales which I have included here are among my favorites, or those found most controversial. You can rest assured that what you read in the writings of R. Michael Wilson are accurate and complete accounts of real wild west “derring-do.”
